March 12, 2020 Coronavirus Update

Dear Messiah Family,

We remain committed to the safety of our students and community, and to providing highest quality learning and care possible.

This afternoon, Governor Mike DeWine announced a state-wide, three-week closure of Ohio's K-12 schools, effective beginning Tuesday, 3/17 through Friday, 4/4.

Messiah Lutheran School will close beginning Monday, 3/16. At this time  (6pm, 3/12), we are planning to be open on Friday, 3/13, though the Kindergarten and 1st grade field trip is cancelled.

Messiah faculty have already begun to prepare for this modification of our instructional program. Faculty met this afternoon, and will continue preparing lessons for our students. We are building out a plan for continued instruction via a combination of distance learning and e-learning.  Your child's teachers will remain available to you during the period of modified instruction. We will be gathering information from you regarding your access to the internet and printing abilities, and will communicate a more detailed plan for instruction in the days to come.

Other adjustments, such as changes to the school calendar, will also be communicated in the days ahead. All school events scheduled during that three week period are cancelled.

As we respond to a public health concern unparallelled in our generation, we are grateful for your understanding.  The closure of school is certainly a disruption, but I do believe this is an action that will protect the greater community.

I request that you check your email regularly for communication from Messiah, as it is our priority to keep you informed and continue to serve you.

Join us in praying for those affected by COVID-19, including those infected and their loved ones, those fighting infection in communities, those who experience a loss of income due to the impact of the disease, and those who are living in fear. May faith in our Lord convert much of that fear to care for our neighbor.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

-Deuteronomy 31:8

Yours in Christ,

Helen Casselberry
